In the mid 1990’s, some friends sold their house and business in Seattle and bought a motor home. When they stopped at our house, they were on their second deck of rummy cards, and full of places they wanted to see. I am happy to say that they are doing great, and now have a very impressive collection of his paintings to show for the years on the road.
We sold the house on Maple Street. Bought into the travel fleet
Put the money in the bank, We headed down the road
Told the boys at that job of mine Forty years was too much time
They went green when they thought of me and the places I would go
We set off in the early spring As soon as we sold everything
Except the cat, two decks of cards, and what fit in our new home.
Started off down the western coast, saw the sights we like the most
Saw the kids in their new home, then headed off to roam.
Ch:
Me and My sweet Caroline, been together since forty nine
Had our ups we’ve had our downs, and we raised our family
Now that we are on our own, all we need is this traveling home
A little cash and a little time, and one more place to see.
Trouble struck in Omaha, we had to get an overhaul
With the prairie flat around us, there was no place we could go
Then the heart attack hit Caroline, it was close but she did fine
Six months in some KOA and we were on the road.
Ch:
We’re on our way to Buffalo, from there I don’t know where we’ll go
We’ve seen everything we want, it doesn’t matter anymore
We wore out our rummy cards, nothing’s new, even talkin’s hard
The money’s spent, our welcome worn, and we’re knocking on your door
Me and my sweet Caroline, been together since forty nine
Had our ups, we’ve had our downs, and we raised our family.
Now we find we’re all alone, all we have is this traveling home
A little cash and a lot of time, and one more place to see.
